A Month of Firsts

Tuesday, August 30th, 2005

It’s been a pretty good month, all in all. I ran my first race ever, a 10k, and was less than a minute off my pulled-out-of-thin-air finish time. I also broke into double-digits for a run for the first time and hit 100 miles for the month for the first time. So, [...]

100?

Monday, August 29th, 2005

I’m lying down, starting to relax. I turn toward the nightstand to set the alarm and think, hmm, guess I’d better double-check what I’m supposed to run tomorrow. I think it’s 5. Good thing I checked, it’s 6. And just for fun let me click on the little button that adds [...]

Question

Saturday, August 27th, 2005

Can somebody tell me why I scheduled my weekly long run the day after my next longest run of the week? Ran 6.5 yesterday morning and it went just fine. It wasn’t long ago that this distance would qualify for my weekly long run, and it was a bit tiring, but nothing extraordinary. [...]

Recovery and Going the Distance

Thursday, August 25th, 2005

Been taking it a bit easy this week after the 10k on Sunday. Was sore the day after the race but been getting continuously better as the days have gone by and the running has resumed. I’m also feeling more confident. I didn’t injure anything by going hard over the weekend and [...]

A Confession

Tuesday, August 23rd, 2005

Up until now I’ve been too embarrassed to admit something, but after reading a recent post on Jeff’s blog I couldn’t hold it inside any longer. I too suffer from lather legs.
Unfortunately, I also get it on my face every morning.
Jeff, you’re twice the runner I’ll ever be and you deserve all the lather [...]

My First Race (Really!)

Monday, August 22nd, 2005

McConnell’s Ice Cream 10k. They have apparently been doing this race for 27 years but I hadn’t heard about it until a few months ago and it seemed to fit into my plans for an eventual go at Las Vegas. It was an easy decision to sign up, and I did so a [...]

My First Race

Friday, August 19th, 2005

Saturday night’s dinner consisted of a metric ton of whole wheat pasta and Gatorbrew, a homemade concoction that combines the carbohydrates of beer with the electrolytes of Gatorade. It’s a porter.
After dinner I went to bed, knowing that I’d have to get up early for the race. It was 5pm.
I pulled myself out [...]

Untitled Blabber

Wednesday, August 17th, 2005

So, a quick glance at the schedule says I was supposed to run 5 yesterday. It also shows that I ran zip.
Fine. Clicking achilles (bad sign), wife had to leave for work early, blah blah blah.
It’s a Good Thing. Need the rest. Have a race this weekend and a [...]

Tapering-Cool

Monday, August 15th, 2005

This week is a lower mileage one due to a 10k race on Sunday. I’m tapering for a race. I’ve never been able to say that before. Sunday is the McConnell’s 10k and it’s the first race I’ve ever signed up for. Last year just under 200 ran. I’ve run [...]

Schedule

Friday, August 12th, 2005

Or as I prefer to pronounce it “skedoolee.”
Over on the right-hand-side of this page you’ll see a link labeled “Running Log” and another labeled “Running Schedule.” (OK, I just changed the names of the links and took out the word “Running.” A little redundant, don’t you think?) The “Log” link [...]
