Duncan brings up a good point when he questions my sanity in using a flashlight. I have a headlamp that works well and lights up my way better than my hand-held mini-maglite but as I was getting ready to go out on my night run on Saturday I didn’t even think about it. [...]
Took the flashlight out for a run tonight starting around 6:30 for my last “long” run before the marathon. It was only 8 miles, but being that it is Saturday and the mileage is the longest for this taper week, it qualifies as a long run in my book. I am also hoping [...]
OK, Jeff said to do the race and I did. This is the first time I actually measured splits:
- 7:35
- 7:30
- 8:19 (paid for the too-fast start)
- 7:56 (even with a pretty good 100 yard “sprint”)
31:20 finish at a 7:50 average and I obviously need to work on evening out [...]
OK, 11 days to the ‘thon and I’m tacking on a new goal. I’m going to lighten the load and drop some pounds. Figure this taper time might be good because I don’t feel the need to fuel up as much. Obviously want to carb load before the big day, etc. but [...]
OK, so how bad can it be? My first marathon is in twelve days. Last week’s schedule called for 32 miles. I ran 11. How’s that for beginning a taper?
This week has begun much differently. I ran 12 today (doing what I was supposed to do on Saturday). [...]
Saturday was my long day. It was supposed to be the second, and last, 20 miler before the marathon and I got to thinking the other day that a jump from 20 to 26 miles is was a little scary. If, I was thinking at the time, I could do 22 miles on [...]
A week agoI ran my first 1/2 marathon race. Although I posted an extremely short entry afterwards, I have continued to think about that race and that day and have come to the conclusion that it deserves a much better write-up. As the days have gone by I have come to a greater [...]
Today is Veteran’s day in the states.
For some grim, yet important stats see Duncan’s site.
Spend some time today remembering the men and women who have fought and are fighting.
Looking back over the blog I’m a bit underwhelmed. I had a great 1/2 marathon race this past Saturday and I’m in the middle of one of my most important weeks of preparation for the Las Vegas Marathon. You’d think I’d be blogging like a maniac.
You’d think.
There’s got to be a [...]
